American Airlines Announces New Nonstop Flight from Des Moines to Los Angeles

March 26, 2025

Des Moines, IA (March 26, 2025) — American Airlines is expanding its service from Des Moines International Airport (DSM) with a new nonstop route to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), launching in October 2025.  With this addition, DSM is back to a record-breaking 33 nonstop destinations.

“We are thrilled that American Airlines is adding nonstop service to LAX from Des Moines,” said Kevin Foley, Executive Director of Des Moines International Airport. “This route not only provides more travel opportunities in California but also enhances connectivity to Hawaii, Asia, and destinations across the Pacific.”

The new daily flight will operate with dual-class Embraer 175 regional jets. It will depart LAX at 9:05 AM PT and arrive in Des Moines at 2:45 PM CT. The return flight will leave DSM at 3:20 PM CT, arriving in Los Angeles at 5:45 PM PT.

With this new route, American Airlines becomes the only carrier offering nonstop service between Des Moines and Los Angeles, reinforcing its commitment to expanding travel options for DSM passengers. American accounted for over 28% of the airport’s total passenger traffic in 2024, emerging as DSM's air travel leader.

“American looks forward to launching nonstop service between Des Moines and our Los Angeles hub this fall,” said Jordan Pack, Director of Domestic Network Planning at American Airlines. “As DSM’s largest airline, American is thrilled to offer this new service offering convenient connections and shorter travel times on American to southern California, Hawaii, the South Pacific, and more.”

With this addition, American Airlines now offers nonstop service from Des Moines to nine destinations: Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Los Angeles, New York, Phoenix, Washington, D.C., and seasonal service to Miami. American will also launch new service to Philadelphia starting in June.

The Los Angeles nonstop route is the fourth new route added to the 2025 travel schedule this year alone. Jacksonville and Boston nonstop routes start in May.

Tickets for the new LAX route will be available starting March 31 at www.aa.com.
