Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program |
Des Moines International Airport (DSM) proudly participates in the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program, supporting passengers with non-visible disabilities such as autism, dementia, or anxiety. The sunflower symbol allows travelers to discreetly signal their need for assistance, ensuring a more inclusive and supportive airport experience. DSM collaborates with the airlines, TSA, the Alzheimer’s Association, and ChildServe to promote awareness and provide a welcoming environment for all passengers.
Please contact the Alzheimer's Association or ChildServe to learn about picking up a free Sunflower Lanyard, or purchase a low-cost lanyard or other sunflower accessory options like pins or wristbands, on the Hidden Sunflower Program website here.

Service Animals, Pets, and Pet Relief Area |
Only ticketed passengers traveling with a pet or a service animal are allowed to have the animal in the Des Moines International Airport. If a passenger is traveling with a pet, it must be in a pet carrier at all times.
Pet relief areas are located outside the terminal. There is a designated area for pets and service animals to relieve themselves outside of the terminal by the parking garage (north of the skywalk). The small fenced area is complete with a fake fire hydrant. Passengers should contact their airline for specific policies and fares for transporting pets in cargo or for traveling with a pet or service animal. Passengers should contact TSA for information on security screening for a pet or service animal.
