DSM Airport Opens Remote Coffee & Bar at C5
July 15, 2020
Des Moines, Iowa (July 15, 2020): The Des Moines International Airport opened a remote bar with food and drink
options on Wednesday, July 15, 2020. An extension of the flagship restaurant Portermill, the remote bar offers a limited
food menu along with coffee and alcoholic beverages served in cans and bottles. The new restaurant extension is
officially called Coffee & Bar.
“Passengers want to get to their gate as quickly as possible,” said Kevin Foley, Des Moines Airport Authority Executive
Director. “So, we are bringing the concessions to them.”
Coffee & Bar, affectionately known as the “C-Bar”, is located at gate C5 in the terminal’s C Concourse. It will be open
seven days a week from 5:00 a.m. until 30 minutes before the last departure on the C Concourse. With current
passenger numbers, Coffee & Bar will offer a limited menu. As more passengers return to the airport, the menu will
expand. The alcoholic beverages will be served Monday through Saturday 6:00 a.m. to close and on Sunday’s starting at
8:00 a.m.
Committed to making DSM a convenient and pleasurable airport to travel through, the Authority Board approved the
budget for a remote bar back in 2019 when passengers were lining up for coffee at Friedrich’s Coffee during peak travel
times. After discussing the impact the pandemic has had on passenger numbers as well as forecasted recovery with
airport leadership, the Board approved the construction contract in April to meet demand as it returns.
“The C-Bar is a great addition for those who are traveling now,” said Foley. “And as passenger traffic picks up it will ease
overcrowding at our other restaurants while meeting the needs of travelers. We are confident it will be a popular stop
here in the airport.”
